The Livery Kitchen Returns
Adapting the Livery Kitchen Initiative throughout 2020
By the end of October 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had become manageable for the NHS, but with events unable to return to Grocers’ Hall, our team was eager to continue cooking for those in need.
Together with the Drapers’ and Fishmongers’ Companies, we diverted our attention to our local communities. Building on our Charity’s existing relationship with the fantastic charity ‘City Harvest’ - who provide unwanted food to those in need - was a natural choice for us to provide nutritious food for the needy in and around the City of London.
During November and December, Grocers’ Hall contributed 400 pre-packaged microwaveable meals a week to this wonderful cause.
Winter Lockdown - and the Livery Kitchen Initiative is needed more than ever
In January 2021, the third national lockdown was imposed. Once more, the NHS was pushed to beyond its limits, and our local communities needed more support than ever before.
Once again the team from the three Livery Companies stepped up to the plate (no pun intended!) making the Livery Kitchen Initiative bigger and better than before, producing 4000 meals a week to be distributed to east London community organisations, food banks and hospitals.
We have committed to this project until Easter when we all hope to see a decline in COVID-19 cases. Grocers’ Hall will be open for normal business and a return to do what we do best just as soon as possible.
