Exclusions

Across most of our funds, we have shared principles for work we do not fund. Our constitutional obligations and our strategy inform these. In addition to these general exclusions, our funding categories have funding priorities.

  • Property purchase, building or refurbishment (except for Heritage charities)
  • Vehicle purchase
  • Rent
  • Costs associated with the lease of property or equipment
  • Professional fees
  • General appeals and emergency appeals
  • funding for projects that have already been completed
  • Applications for work that is due to start within four months – for most of our Funds, it takes around four months from the date of an application to the payment of successful applications
  • Marketing or literature leaflets (except for educational materials)
  • Music Tutoring
  • Feasibility studies
  • Senior leadership salary

  • Charities with a turnover of over £500,000 (except for Medical Charities, where the limit is £15m). 
  • Non-UK registered charities (e.g. Community Interest Companies). 
  • Charities whose beneficiaries are overseas.
  • Individuals. 
  • Places of worship. 
  • Educational establishments (schools, colleges, universities).
  • Girl Guides/Scout groups/associations
  • Organisations that promote a particular religion or only provide services to people of a particular religion.
  • Organisations who have had an application declined or awarded in the last 24 months.
  • Those with over 12 months of unrestricted reserves.
  • Grant-making organisations.
  • Organisations working with children and young people or vulnerable adults who do not have Safeguarding Policies.

Please check each box to confirm your eligibility to apply. You will then be taken to a short first-stage application form. Once the application is complete, you will receive an automated email confirming that we received it. We will contact you within three weeks after the deadline date (in September or January) to let you know if your application will proceed to the next stage.
